Hours before the launch and the start of formal maiden broadcast, the Indonesia Broadcasting Commission issued a statement that Kompas TV don't have a broadcasting license. In response, Kompas TV announced that the channel was merely a content provider and doesn't need a broadcast license because its content can be aired on regional and international television. Kompas TV start their to broadcast on 9 September 2011 through local television network in some Indonesian provinces.
