. The population was 1,554 at the 2000 census. It is named for the nearby lake named after the owner of a nearby mill, Samuel Koontz.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 21.6% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 27.0% from 45 to 64, and 18.0% who were 65 years of age or older.
