Kostanjevica na Krasu

Kostanjevica na Krasu is one of the main settlements and the administrative centre of the municipality of Miren-Kostanjevica
in the Littoral
region of Slovenia
.
It is located in the north-western part of the Kras Plateau, not far from Nova Gorica
and the border with Italy
. During most of its history, it used to be a part of the County of Gorizia and Gradisca.
Kostanjevica was burnt down on 29 September 1944 by the German Army. After the Second World War a new village, very different from the former one, was built on the site according to the plans of the architect Max Fabiani
.
The parish church

and belongs to the Diocese of Koper.
