Krasnozavodsk was founded in 1915 as a settlement servicing a mechanical factory. Initially, it had no name. After 1917, it was called Vozrozhdeniye , Zagorsky , due to its vicinity to Zagorsk (now Sergiyev Posad); and Krasnozavodsky . In 1940, the settlement was granted town status and renamed Krasnozavodsk. In 1999, a part of Krasnozavodsk and the nearby settlement of Novostroyka were incorporated into the town of Peresvet

Some seven kilometers north of Krasnozavodsk is the settlement of Bogorodskoye, known as the center of one of the oldest popular handicraft
