in a full-page newspaper advertisement (see External Links below) given by Ministry of Women and Child Development to mark the National Girl Child Day. Initially Mrs.Tirath refused to accept the error on behalf of her ministry, accused the media of hair-splitting, and stated, "[the] message is more important than the image. The photograph is only symbolic. The message for the girl child is more important. She should be protected." She later apologized on behalf of her ministry for publishing a photograph of a former Pakistan Air Force chief in a government advertisement and said an inquiry will bring out who was responsible for it. The former air marshal, upon learning of the publication, "..wasn't aware about this [and felt it was] an innocent mistake."
A shocked Tribunal, headed by chairman V K Bali, cancelled the selection of the journalists working with DD News, finding "misuse of marks in the interview" and "irregularities having vitiated the whole process." Citing the example of Yashvi Tirath, which the tribunal found to be symptomatic of the favouratism shown to the other 24 candidates, CAT indicted Prasar Bharti (The Government body responsible for managing the state run media). "This is a glaring example of arbitrariness obviously to favour her...marking in the interview also seems to be quite arbitrary as some of the candidates seen to be high in the merit list before the interview have completely floundered on the rocks of interview," CAT noted in its judgement while going through the allegations.

On September 13 , 2010 Government of India's Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) cancelled the appointment of Krishna Tirath's daughter Yashvi Tirath for the post of anchor-cum-correspondent in state run telecaster Doordarshan News.A shocked Tribunal, headed by chairman V K Bali, cancelled the selection of the journalists working with DD News, finding "misuse of marks in the interview" and "irregularities having vitiated the whole process."
