The Kuoni Travel is a tourism
company. It was founded in 1906 by the entrepreneur Alfred Kuoni in Zurich, Switzerland where it is based. In 2010, the Kuoni Group was named “World’s Leading Tour Operator” at the annual World Travel Awards for eleven years in a row.
In August 2009 Kuoni announced massive losses. The travel operator stated that in the first half of 2009 they lost CHF51,000,000 (£29,000,000) a stark contrast to the 2008 profits of CHF 21 million (£12,000,000). The reasons stated in the announcement blamed a 21% fall in sales and the global recession.
