where Berdyev made his name as a coach getting them promoted to Russian Premier League
in 2002, and grabbing there the bronze medals in their debut year (2003). He managed the team in two appearances in UEFA Cup
(2004, 2006) and once in Intertoto Cup (2007). In 2008
he led his team to its first championship title followed by second championship title in 2009
.
in 2009–10 UEFA Champions League. He went down in history by becoming the first and only Turkman to win against a Spanish
club and also by being the first Turkman to win against Barcelona.
Kurban Berdyev always carries his pray beads with him. He never appears with out them.
