The home of most of the Town of Kent's population, Lake Carmel is centered on the eponymous artificial lake
, in the southeast corner of the township and just north of Carmel
. Lake Carmel was developed in the 1920s and thereafter by the Smadbeck brothers, who excavated and dammed a swamp and sold lots through the now-defunct New York Daily Mirror
