, the town has a total area of 1.7 square miles (4.4 km²), all of it land. The town sits along SC 9, a primary route to Myrtle Beach. During hurricane evacuations and peak tourist season, the two-lane highway often becomes heavily congested.

living together, 16.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.2% were non-families. 37.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 19.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.20 and the average family size was 2.91.
In the town the population was spread out with 19.5% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 20.0% from 25 to 44, 29.5% from 45 to 64, and 25.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 48 years. For every 100 females there were 67.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 62.8 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $23,438, and the median income for a family was $32,917. Males had a median income of $29,286 versus $20,625 for females. The per capita income

The football team has won nine State Championships (1938, 1961, 1970, 1971, 1981, 1989, 1991, 1997 and 2006) which is tied for 4th most all-time in the state. The team has also finished runner-up six additional seasons (1939, 1976, 1990, 1992, 2002 and 2003). In the 50 years between 1960-2010, the football team established a record of 464-155-7 (74.12% winning percentage), or an average of over 9 wins a season for half a century. The Wild Gators also played in four consecutive State Championships between 1989-1992, winning two.
The baseball team has won eight State Championships (1938, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2006) which is 4th most all-time in the state. The team has also captured three additional Lower State Championships and would eventually finish runner-up in 1987, 2002 and 2011. The baseball team still holds several state records including the longest winning streak in state history at 49 games (between 1999-2001). The streak began with winning the final two games in the 1999 State Championship series against Jonesville. The 2000 baseball team completed the “perfect season” going 24-0, defeating Lewisville in the State Championship. The 2001 baseball team began the season 23-0 before falling in game two of the State Championship to Dixie. However, the team rebounded the next game to claim the championship for the 5th consecutive season. The 2001 team also holds the state record for most shut-outs in a season with 18 (the 2000 team is also on the list with 14).
Although Lake View has primarily seen success in football and baseball, other sports have excelled. The basketball team won the 1981-1982 State Championship and the softball team has recently become a perennial power. The team won its first State Championship in softball in 2007 and has won three additional Lower State Championships in 1993, 2008 and 2010.
Lake View is the home of Carpostan Industries. It is known as a supplier of designer fabrics for the home.

"Home of State Champions"
Lake View High School has long established itself as a leader in high school sports in South Carolina with a history that can hardly be matched throughout the state. The school colors are royal blue and gold and the school mascot is the “Wild Gators”. History
The Town of Lake View was originated as Ford's Mill, and the name was changed to Page's Mill in 1870. The town was officially incorporated as Page's Mill in 1907, and the citizens voted to change its name to Lake View in 1916.Lake View is the home of Carpostan Industries. It is known as a supplier of designer fabrics for the home.
