. It was created by a split from Øksnes
on July 1, 1919, at which point Langenes had a population of 1.085.
On January 1, 1963 the district of Holmgrenda with 65 inhabitants was moved to Sortland
municipality. On January 1, 1964 the rest of Langenes, with 2.037 inhabitants, reunited with Øksnes.
