The journal was established at the University of Hawaii at Manoa
in 2007, sponsored by the UH National Foreign Language Resource Center and published by the University of Hawaii Press
. The founding editor is Kenneth L. Rehg (UH Department of Linguistics). The journal appears biannually in June and December and is archived online in ScholarSpace
. The journal also publishes additional special issues on related topics. It is indexed in Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts and the MLA International Bibliography
