. The station is near the Hotel Castañeda, a former hotel built by Fred Harvey for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad. The architects were Frederick Roehrig

, opening for business on January 1, 1899. Though the hotel has been closed since 1948, the bar is still said to be operational as of 2002.

Of the seven New Mexico stations served by Amtrak, Las Vegas was the fifth busiest in FY10, boarding or detraining an average of 12 passengers daily.
