Lauren Shera

Lauren Shera spent her early life in New York surrounded by a wide range of musicians. When she was 13, her family relocated to northern California at the same time that she picked up the guitar.

In 2008, she studied at the renowned Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, where she and honed her skills as a singer and a musician while learning ukulele and clawhammer banjo.

“In My Bones”

Lauren self-released her first album on Nov 30, 2006 when she was just 18 years old. Along with its release she began to tour nationally and expand her audience from the Northern California coffee house base that she had developed.

“Once I Was A Bird”

Shera’s most recent project “Once I Was A Bird,” was released on June 7, 2011. The album received critical acclaim from outlets such as My Old Kentucky Blog who called Shera “A major talent lying in wait,” Magnet Magazine who said "You might not know Shera now, but trust us, that is about to change” and American Songwriter who called her a “rising indie-folk star.”

The album’s lush sounds and beautiful temperament are complimented with guest performances by Abigail Washburn, and Kristin Hersh (Throwing Muses). It was produced by Andy Zenczak at Gadgetbox Studios in Santa Cruz.

Performance History

Phil Lesh has been quoted with saying, “Every generation or two, a voice comes along that redefines what you thought you knew about music and touches you deep down in your soul. Her voice is going to define the next generation of folk music.”

Shera has shared the stage with such artists as Ray LaMontagne, Jason Mraz, Phil Lesh, Shawn Colvin, Billy Bragg, Nanci Griffith, Kristin Hersh, Joan Osborne, Jackie Greene, and Abigail Washburn.

She’s performed at festivals such Bonnaroo, the High Sierra Music Festival, Sausalito Music and Arts Festival, Monterey Music Summit and South by Southwest. When she was 18-years-old she was also invited to perform at the Bob Dylan Tribute Concert at New York City’s Avery Fisher Hall.

Lauren was hand picked by Ben Lovett of Mumford and Sons fame to play on the first U.S. Communion tour, which is the label, concert promoter and artist collective that Lovett operates. Lauren will play beside Matthew and the Atlas and David Mayfield on over 21 dates nationally.

Honeymoon

Lauren also performs in the band, honeymoon. The group is based in Santa Cruz and performs a blend of indie-folk, traditional roots and pop that is highlighted by the four part harmonies of Shera and band mates Andrea Blunt, Sara Bollwinkel, and Christina Bailey.
