Lawndale High School was closed in 1981, and reopened in 1998. http://www.insidesocal.com/history/2010/01/closed-high-schools.html It is one of three schools in the Centinela Valley Union High School District. In 2009, Lawndale High was awarded the California Distinguished Award under the Bravo Administration (Principal Vicente Bravo). During this time period, Lawndale was also awarded the US News Silver Medal for similar high schools throughout the nation, as well as Title 1 Achievement school.
