Lego Wild West is a Lego
theme based on the settling of the Western United States
("Frontier"). Various minifigure
s were introduced, including wrangler
s, sheriff
s, US Cavalry, bandits and Indian
s. The Wild West sets were also the first to include revolver
s and rifle
s, which were later used in the Adventurers
sets. These sets also marked the first instance where the perpetual smile on the minifig heads was replaced with various other facial expressions. The Wild West sets were introduced in the late summer of 1996. It was released August 1996 in Europe and September 1996 in North America. The Indians sets came out in 1997. After that, the Wild West sets were discontinued. In late 2001, three Wild West sets (Sheriff's Lock-up, Fort Legoredo, and Rapid River Village) were rereleased.
