Leland Stanford Hobbs was raised in New Jersey
and attended the United States Military Academy
at West Point from which he graduated in June 1915, in the same class as Dwight D. Eisenhower

"). He served in France during World War I. During World War II he became a Major General and commanded the 30th Infantry Division (United States) in Europe. After the war he commanded the IX Corps (United States) at Camp Sendai, Japan, and held a number of commands in the United States. He retired from the army in 1953 and became vice president of the colonial Trust Bank in New York City. General Hobbs died at Walter Reed Army Hospital and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery
