Athletics
Lexington High School has a strong tradition in sports including four team state championships and several individual championships. The football team at LHS had fallen upon hard times going 2-8 in the 2005 and 2006 seasons, but had a great run under 2001 Division II State Coach of the Year Dave Kaple through the late 90's and early 2000s. In 2001 the football team won their first Ohio Heartland Conference Crown since 1988, and advanced to the OHSAA Division II playoffs, for the only time, persisted to knock of #1 seeded Marysville before losing to state runner-up Bishop Watterson. The football team began to show signs of life again in 2007, finishing the season as 8-3 participating in the playoffs for the second time in school history. The team finished the 2008 campaign with a perfect 10-0 record before falling in the second round of the playoffs to eventual Division II champion Sylvania Southview. The football team is currently coached by Russell Payne, he will be entering his fourth season this fall. The boys' basketball team in the past few years has gradually been improving, in 2006-2007 finishing with a 15-9 record as Northwest District Runner-up to state-bound Upper Sandusky. In 2007-2008 the team Tied with Mansfield Senior High for its first conference title in a decade, as well went on to Win the district and conclude a fine season as Regional Runner up with a final 20-5 record. The boys' basketball team is coached by a 1987 Lexington graduate Grant Weaver. He will be going into his fourth season. The girls' team has had great success in recent years under 2007 Division II State Coach of the Year Dan Trease. The girls have been crowned Northwest District Champions five of the last six years, and reached the State Final Four in 2002, getting beat in overtime by Hudson. They concluded the 2006-2007 season 21-3 as District Champions.
