Lily Kim is a Korean-American
media personality in Chicago. She currently works as a Public Information Specialist with the Office for the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County (the second largest unified court system in the world). . In the summer of 2003, shortly after returning from her first visit to South Korea
, she approached the owners of KBC-TV
with the idea of a weekly news magazine in English targeting second-generation Koreans and also Americans who watch Korean soap operas. At that time, all programming was in Korean
. The focus would be on Asian restaurants, nightlife and local events. While the station president liked the concept, her idea was rejected.
Two years later, she heard that KBC
was recruiting an English-speaking staff. She interviewed again with the station, and this time was offered not only a reporting job, but the anchor position, too.
Today, AAN News is a 30-minute program that is the only English-speaking show of its kind in the Midwest
. The program covers Chicago
's many vibrant Asian communities, current events and local issues. Kim's job often required taking on responsibilities not often associated with an anchor position, such as shooting her own footage and editing it as well.
Kim was also a producer with Fishbowl Media Chicago Productions, LLC which produced for A-List TV where she was a co-host. She has been recognized by the City of Chicago and Mayor Daley for news coverage and was presented with an appreciation award by the Philippine community for coverage of the Filipino World War II Vets seeking their reparation. Kim has emceed numerous Asian events in Chicago and has hosted the Korean Festival in Chicago for the past 5 years.
Kim is also former president of the Asian American Media Coalition (AAMC), founded in 2006.
