Lim Chuan Poh

Lim Chuan Poh is a retired Singaporean general who was the 4th Chief of Defence Force of the Singapore Armed Forces
(SAF) between 2000 and 2003. He became the chairman of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research
after leaving the military.

Lim studied at the University of Cambridge
on a scholarship (SAF Overseas Scholarship) awarded by the Singapore Armed Forces
, and earned both a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Engineering and a Master of Arts in Mathematics. While serving in the military later on, he also pursued an MBA degree from Cornell University
.
He undertook many prominent appointments during his commission, including Commanding Officer
of the 3rd Singapore Infantry Regiment, Head of the Joint Operations Department, Commander
of the 10th Singapore Infantry Brigade, Commander of the 9th Division, and Chief of Army. In April 2000, he was appointed to the position of Chief of Defence Force of the Singapore Armed Forces
as a Major General
. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General
in June 2001.
Lim was noted by the military for "his significant contributions in developing the Army's combat capabilities, especially in the areas of command and control, mobility and firepower and his widening of ties with other armed forces."
Lim relinquished his appointment as Chief of Defence Force in April 2003.
