. The LPSC has developed indigenous cryogenic upper stage for Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) which was successfully test fired by ISRO on August 4, 2007.

LPSC's current director is S. Ramakrishnan.

LPSC Mahendragiri

It is one of the units of three units of LPSC and could be called as the "Jet Propulsion Laboratory of India" as all stage and engine related tests of ISRO's launch vehicle programmes are carried out here. It also conducts the test for the Satellite Engines. An indigenous liquid hydrogen plant was erected at this facility to supply fuel for the cryogenic upper stage of GSLV.
It has a cosmopolitan environment with people from all parts of India working to realise a common goal for India's success in all its launch vehicle programmes.

LPSC Bangalore

This unit caters predominantly to propulsion requirements of satellite programmes of ISRO apart from development of indigenous sensors and transducers.

     led by its state president Mohd.Ismail agitated in front of LPSC Mahendragiri gate on 14-09-2010 for announcing it as a separate centre of ISRO. Presently, it is functioning under the unit of LPSC, Valiamala. Tamilians are discriminated from holding highest posts such as Director. They presented 15 Charter of Demands to administration.
  2. Suthern Thirumalaikumar ex.MLA raised the question of tamils discrimination and questioned the rationale behind not announcing of Mahendragiri as a separate centre of ISRO in Tamil Nadu State Legislative Assembly in 2010.
  3. Social activist Karungal George, President, Tamilnadu Nadar Mahajana Sangam led an agitation infront of LPSC, Mahendragiri for announcing Mahendragiri as a separate centre of ISRO and wanted the government to intervene the discrimination of tamils by valiamala admin from holding higer posts, appointment of contractors\, etc
  4. Tamizhga Arasial biweekly tamil magazine published an article with respect to the discrimination of tamilains by Valiamala from promotions, higher posts, cultural representation, local people empowerment technical emancipation etc. It questioned the rationale behind the non-invitation of Smt.Jayallaitha TN CM during the openeing ceremony of National conference. This created a storm in Tamil Nadu.
