The following is a list of Australian Football League
(known as the Victorian Football League until 1990) minor premiers.
The team that finishes the home and away rounds on top of the premiership ladder is named as the minor premier. Since 1991, the McClelland Trophy
has been awarded to this team. The minor premiership is a secondary award which only provides minor benefits to the winning team during the AFL Finals Series, with the main award being the AFL Premiership, which is awarded to the winner of the AFL Grand Final
. As of 2011, 63 of the 115 minor premiers have gone on to win the AFL Premiership, while another 39 lost the Grand Final.
