Encyclopedia
The following is a list of characters for the CBS
television series
, CSI: Miami
.
, and Kim Delaney
.
The CSI: Miami cast were introduced during the penultimate second season episode of the original show
, starring William Petersen
and Marg Helgenberger
. NYPD Blue
actor David Caruso
was cast as New York born Lieutenant Horatio Caine, the head of the Miami Dade Crime Lab, and a decorated Detective who is fueled by his belief in good. Emily Procter
was cast as southern beauty Calleigh Duquesne, Horatio's second in command and a Detective who always has Caine's back, she is the ballistics expert of the lab, and will do anything to get justice. Adam Rodriguez
is Eric Delko, a former tow-truck driver recruited by Horatio to be a Detective on what was then Megan's team. Rory Cochrane
was cast as Speedle, Delko's best friend who often gets a tough time for his lack of gun maintenance. Khandi Alexander
rounded out the cast as Alexx Woods, the Medical Examiner of the team who speaks to the dead, because she is their last hope.
When the series was picked up Kim Delaney
, the lead actress of NYPD Blue
was added to the cast as Megan Donner, a female Lieutenant who took a leave of absence following the death of her husband, upon her return she found Horatio had taken her team, and she was forced to work beneath him. She left after 10 episodes writing Horatio a letter, saying that the job reminded her too much of her husband, and she had to resign, leading to Calleigh's promotion to assistant supervisor on a permanent basis, replacing Megan.
The next cast change came at the beginning of the third season, when Sofia Milos
was added to the cast playing Homicide Detective Yelina Salas, Horatio's sister-in-law and a formidable force within the department, with the addition of Milos came the loss of Cochrane's Speed, Speedle was killed whilst investigating the kidnapping of a young boy, Speed and Caine were involved in a fire-fight, but due to his poor gun maintenance was unable to return fire and was shot dead. Replacing him is former patrol officer Ryan Wolfe, played by Jonathan Togo
, he was hired by Caine partly because of his OCD, which included cleaning his gun on a regular basis. The end of the season saw the departure of Milos, who moved to Rio de Janiero with Raymond, Horatio's brother who had previously been undercover for a number of years.
Season 5 saw the additions of Rex Linn
and Eva LaRue
to the cast, Linn had previously recurred since season 1, and LaRue during season 4. Linn plays Detective Frank Tripp, a Homicide Detective who loves his job, and working with Caine's team, whilst LaRue plays Natalia Boa Vista, a former FBI mole turned CSI, her role in the attempted FBI takedown of the lab at the end of season 4 at first caused tension between her and team, but she soon became a trusted member.
During season 6 Rory Cochrane returned as Speedle, this time as a figment of Delko's imagination, and the end of the season saw the departure of Khandi Alexander as Alexx Woods, after her son was suspected of murder she decided she needed to spend more time with the living and resigned from the crime lab, Horatio told Alexx the door would always be left open for her to return. Alexander returned for guest appearances throughout seasons 7 and 8. She was replaced with Megalyn Echikunwoke
as Dr. Tara Price, starting with season 7.
Echikunwoke's Price was next to depart the cast, her character was arrested following developing an addiction to oxycodine, and stealing drug evidence from an open case. Eddie Cibrian
and Omar Miller joined the cast for season 8, as Detective Jesse Cardoza, a Los Angeles native who had worked with Caine, Duquesne and Donner in 1997, prior to the inception of the crime lab, and returned following the death of his wife, and Detective Walter Simmons, a night-shift CSI who transferred to Caine's shift.
Adam Rodriguez
departed the cast in 8x05, with Delko resigning from CSI following his shooting at the beginning of the season. Rodriguez would return for several guest appearances throughout the season, with Delko now working for the states attorneys office. Following an attack on the crime lab in which Jesse Cardoza was poisoned to death by halogen gas, Cibrian's space on the cast was filled by a returning Adam Rodriguez, whose return to the cast was partly due to the large number of petitions signed by fans.
Due to Rodriguez's short-term departure during season 8, Emily Procter
and David Caruso
are the only cast members to have been part of the cast in every episode. Also, due to William Petersen
's exit from the original series, and Melina Kanakaredes
's exit from CSI: NY
, Miami is the only show in the franchise to still feature its original lead actor and lead actress.
