. The Internet series first debuted in 2000 with the short "Spin Fun Knowin' Ya". The first season of the Internet series has been released on Region One
DVD, but various DVDs have been released featuring episodes from the first two seasons.
The Happy Tree Friends universe features twenty main characters, and various background characters referred to as "Generic Tree Friends". The basic structure of an episode features one or more character being killed, only to regenerate in the future episodes. Each episode usually ends with a moral shown after the credits sequence.
But the third season is currently on.
In addition to the show's three seasons and an unofficial pilot, there have been some special shorts since its premiere in 1999. These include ten shorts not listed in any season, eleven special shorts dubbed as "Smoochies", six special Christmas
-themed episodes dubbed as "Kringles", three Valentine's Day
-themed episodes dubbed as "Love Bites" and five "Break" shorts. The "Smoochie" shorts involve three different items being dropped next to a main character, only for them to be killed in three different ways, each regarding the item. These have been adapted into the Happy Tree Friends website where one can choose an item to drop. The "Kringle" shorts are Christmas
-themed shorts that feature the main characters doing various Christmas-related tasks, only to be killed in various ways. The "Love Bites" were Valentine's Day
-themed shorts, that went with the basic structure of a Happy Tree Friends episode. The "Break" shorts were produced in 2006, when no new shorts were produced until the following year. A new break short debuted in 2009.
