There are four constitencies covering the preserved county
of Gwynedd. They are all county constituencies (CCs), and are used also, since the 1999 Welsh Assembly election
, for elections to the National Assembly for Wales

The preserved county
of Gwynedd shares its name with the principal area of Gwynedd, although the preserved county also covers Anglesey
.
Two of the constituencies
straddle the boundary with another preserved county, and Boundary Commission for Wales proposals for new boundaries have been accepted, to become effective for the 2010 United Kingdom general election and the Welsh Assembly election, 2007. The new boundaries define three constituencies covering the preserved county of Gwynedd, all entirely within its boundary.
For Welsh Assembly elections, constituencies are grouped into additional member
electoral regions, and changes to constituency boundaries mean, also, changes to regional boundaries.
Boundaries for the four existing constituencies were defined before changes to the boundaries of preserved counties under the Preserved Counties (Amendment to Boundaries) (Wales) Order 2003, which came into effect in 2003, and before changes to local government boundaries under the Local Government (Wales) Act 1994

The Conwy and Meirionnydd Nant Conwy constituencies are partly Clwyd constituencies.
