This list of dental schools in the United Kingdom
includes all sixteen Dental Schools or Schools of Medicine and Dentistry in the United Kingdom which are recognised by the General Dental Council
and lead to a dental degree of a British university. There are eleven such schools in England
, three in Scotland
, one in Wales
and one in Northern Ireland
. The list is ordered by country and name.and includes the date of founding of the Dental School or its parent/associated Medical School. The Dental Schools Council
represents the interests of all UK Dental Schools.
University of Portsmouth
- School of Professionals Complementary to Dentistry. Opened in 2005. The School of Professionals Complementary to Dentistry is the first of its kind in the country and was developed by the University of Portsmouth in partnership with NHS Education South Central.
The School offers three programmes of study:
* Foundation Award in Science and Dental Therapy
* BSc (Hons) Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy
* CertHE Dental Nursing
All three of these courses have been developed to address skills shortages in the professions complementary to dentistry. Students do not have to pay tuition fees for these programmes as they are fully funded by the NHS. Students on full-time courses are also eligible for an NHS bursary.
