When the E-routes were re-tendered in 1997, Centrewest retained the E6 and ordered new DMS-class Dennis Dart SLF/ Marshall Capital

s for the route as well as for the E5 and E10. Evening and Sunday services were created and the route was extended from Hayes and Harlington station to Bull's Bridge Tesco via Cranford Drive.

When the E-routes were re-tendered again in 2002, Centrewest (now under the ownership of FirstGroup) lost the E6 to independent operator Wings Buses, who ordered a batch of Dennis Dart SLF 8.8m/Plaxton Pointer 2s for the route. It was extended again to Greenford station and re-routed via Ruislip Road, the E10 taking over the Ferrymead Gardens section. The extension also made room at Greenford Red Lion for new route E11.

Wings Buses was subsequently acquired by Tellings-Golden Miller

, who ordered DES-class Alexander Dennis Enviro200 Darts for the route and operated it from Perivale West (PA) garage. In 2008, the DESs were replaced by longer DE-class Enviro200 Darts for capacity reasons.
