Encyclopedia
The Long March 6or Chang Zheng 6 as in pinyin
, abbreviated LM-6 for export or CZ-6 within China, is a Chinese
liquid-fuelled carrier rocket
, which is being developed by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation
and the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology
, and is scheduled to make its maiden flight in 2013.
As one of the new generation rocket family of Long March 5, Long March 6 and Long March 7
, it will be a light capacity rocket, compansating the heavy lift and the mid-heavy lift rocket families. It will be capable of placing 500 kilograms (1,102.3 lb) of payload into a sun-synchronous orbit
.
The first stage of the Long March 6 will be derived from the booster rocket
s being developed for the Long March 5 rocket. It will be powered by a YF-100
engine, which will generate 1177 kilonewtons (1,177,000 N) of thrust from burning kerosene
and LOX
as rocket fuel and oxidiser.
