History
German immigrant Theodore Lock arrived in the area in 1841 and established the Lock mill with his family. The original building was destroyed by fire in 1972 and was replaced with a newer, more modern building. Many German families, especially from the Krefeld area settled here around 1851. The community appeared in the series "Germans in America" on German television. Because of its German heritage it is mainly a Catholic town. In recent years, population has boomed along the "Bonnots Mill Road" on Highway A in the direction of neighboring Bonnots Mill. Loose Creek has also produced many leaders including recently elected Tau Kappa Epsilon President, Dustin Thoenen.Business & Population
Loose Creek, population about 200, is a small town. There are no stoplights,one furniture store, two cabinet shops, two gas stations, one restaurant, two feed mills, a post office, and an insurance agency. There is a Catholic school and church, also. There are some businesses on the outskirts of the town, too.Loose Creek is mainly a rural area. Many different things are raised in the area. There are many turkey, hog, and cow farms in the area. There is also one game bird farm.
Lifelong resident of the Loose Creek/Bonnots Mill, MO. area, Greg Stegeman, currently is a standout player and starter for the Columbia College Cougar men's Basketball team in Columbia, MO.
