Lord Cultural Resources is a cultural professional practice providing specialized planning services in the museum, cultural and heritage sector. The firm was founded in 1981 by Barry Lord and Gail Dexter Lord, and employs some 44 professionals and support staff, with offices in Toronto, Ottawa, New York, San Francisco, Madrid, Paris, Bahrain and Beijing. It has successfully completed more than 1,700 museum planning assignments worldwide in 45 countries on 6 continents.
Lord Cultural Resources also publishes books on museum planning. In 1991, Gail Dexter Lord and Barry Lord co-edited The Manual of Museum Planning
(Second Edition 1999). The Manual of Museum Management
was published in 1997 (Second Edition 2009), and the third publication in the series, The Manual of Museum Exhibitions
, was launched in 2001. The Manual of Strategic Planning for Museums and The Manual of Museum Learning were published in 2007. The firm also issues a quarterly newsletter, Cultural Capital, exploring topics and issues concerning the museum world.
