Being only two hours from Washington, DC, Lost River has become a popular weekend destination, with a sizeable number of people from the Greater Washington Metropolitan region owning vacation homes there. Lost River is particularly popular with the District's gay population, and several local businesses cater to that demographic group.
Happily located in Lost River, WV for all of my 27 years I am fully aware that my surroundings are best described as "God's Country". The beauty in the historical sites that are hidden in hollows and valleys of towering mountain ranges. The area was proudly settled by God fearing, Christian families who began quaint churches that have become highly populated congregations. A trip into the mountains in the Fall will take you through winding back roads with the smell of foliage and the vision of God's handiwork splashed in vibrant colors throughout the thick wooded forests. If you do not own a 4x4 our Winters will make you wish that you did, the beauty of a white Christmas is put into visual appreciation along with the rest of this seasons perks, a cozy wood stove inside while the snow falls outside is something you may want to experience. The summer season is full of active local farmers and their annual routines and the smell of freshly mowed grass will fill your nose and you will never forget the free feeling that you experience driving down a long stretch of highway able to view mountains all around you topped with blue skies and puffy, cotton candy like clouds. You really would have to experience this for yourself. Traditions are what we thrive on in this area. Wild and Wonderful.
