The school was built in 1970 and in addition to regular classroom facilities it also offers a Swimming Pool, Library, Gymnasium, Assembly Hall & Lecture Theatre, Two Dining Halls and a Sixth Year Common Room. The current enrollment is somewhere around 1000 pupils. The uniform of the pupils is predominantly Black with Grey and Red included in some features including the school tie.
Previous Headmaster Mr Brian Johnston retired in 2009 and was succeeded by Mr Peter Flood whose own teaching subject in English and has had many different teaching jobs around Scotland before joining Loudoun Academy. On joining the school, Flood stated in the Kilmarnock Standard
: "There are many features of excellence at Loudoun Academy in terms of the creativity and enterprising attitude of pupils and staff. I am impressed by the inclusive nature of the school and the calm and welcoming atmosphere. My intention is to ensure that no pupil is left behind and that Loudoun Academy is regarded as a centre of excellence."
and clothes were modeled from boutiques from all over the Irvine Valley as well as High-Street brands such as NEXT
. The main event is a show called Stars in Their Eyes which pupils and occasionally teachers perform to the local community a variety show (mostly singing). In 2010 a charity single, "You Gave Back a Part of Me" was written and produced within the school and then released in the local Co-Op, Asda

Children in Need
Loudoun Academy also has an excellent record in charitable events, raising the most money for Children In Need of any school in Scotland (around £10,000 per year). Loudoun (known as Team Loudoun during the Children in Need appeal) led by Depute Head, Eleanor Mclean, has raised well excess of £100,000 since starting an annual fundraise. The school holds events such as a Slave Day which younger pupils can buy a Sixth Year pupil for the day to do various tasks for them including doing their work and carrying their school bag. The school also holds a fashion show each year, ran by Art & Design teacher, Rachel Dallas. In the 2010 version of 'Parade for Pudsey' the presenter dressed as Gok WanGok Wan
