Louis de Berquin was a French lawyer, civil servant, linguist and reformer in the 16th century.
. He desired to free France from the power of the pope. He accused the divinity professors of Sorbonne
of heresy and was burned at the stake on April 16, 1529. All his original works are lost, only a few of his Erasmus translations remain.
Louis de Berquin: was of noble birth. A brave and courtly knight, he was devoted to study, polished in manners, and of blameless morals. He was great follower of the papistical constitutions, and a great hearer of Lutheranism in special abhorence.
