administrative center is the town of Lyskovo

The district is divided into 15 administrative units: the town administration (Lyskovo
),
urban-type settlement
administration (Makarievo), and 13 village
administrations, which include 98 villages.
The area of the district is 2134 square kilometers.

. The official
center of the uyezd was in the town of Makariev (today's urban-type settlement
of Makarievo) on the northern bank of the Volga, next to the ancient
Makaryev Monastery

Until the fire of 1816, Makariev was the home to the annual Makariev Fair
.
However, the administrative offices of the uyezd were located in the village of Lyskovo
,
which, being located on the southern bank of the Volga, was conveniently served by
the Kazan
Post Road.
In 1925, a few years after the Bolshevik Revolution, the old Makaryev Uyezd was reorganized into
the Lyskovo District.
