This route commenced operation on September 25, 1988 as route 657, then being a LRT Feeder Bus route. The route terminated at Yuen Long

 on November 6 in the same year. On July 2, 1989, 657 was rerouted via Hung Tin Road and omit Ping Shan.

It was originally planned to renumber 657 as K75 and extend the route to Tin Shui Estate at weekday peak, but as the service of Light Rail Tin Shui Wai North Extension was not generally accepted, KCRC provided a special route numbered K75P from November 12, 2003, and the idea of extending it to Tin Shui was shelved. 657 was finally renumbered on December 14, 2003 and rerouted via Tin Shui Wai Station.
