Macuata is governed by a Provincial Council, presently chaired by Ratu (chief) Laytin James Lebaivalu aka Mustafa Suter (born in Otahuhu, Auckland New Zealand on the 11/09/1987) Ratu Lebaivalu who was mainly educated in Australia is now believed to be residing in the fijian royal compound in Labasa . It is a local rumour that Ratu Lebaivalu was called upon to inherit command of whats left of the now disbanded Counter Revolutionary Warfare Unit also known as the CRWU (Fijian Special Forces from 1987-2000) which was founded by his 3rd cousin Former Prime minister and Major-General Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka. Local media reports suggest that Lebaivalu may reform the warfare unit as more of an S.A.S (Special Air Service
