in the Oberaargau administrative district in the canton
of Bern in Switzerland
. Since January 1, 2007, Gutenburg
is part of the municipality. On 1 January 2011 Kleindietwil
and Leimiswil
were merged with the municipality of Madiswil.
Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 4.0% and transportation infrastructure made up 2.1%. Out of the forested land, 31.2% of the total land area is heavily forested and 1.8% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 28.8% is used for growing crops and 28.5% is pastures, while 2.3% is used for orchards or vine crops. All the water in the municipality is in rivers and streams.
In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP
which received 44.4% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the FDP
(15.5%), the SPS
(13.9%) and the CSP
(8.3%).
The age distribution of the population is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 23.3% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 60% and the seniors (over 64 years old) make up 16.7%. The entire Swiss population is generally well educated. Madiswil has an area, , of 15.85 square kilometres (6.1 sq mi). Of this area, 9.45 km² (3.6 sq mi) or 59.6% is used for agricultural purposes, while 5.24 km² (2 sq mi) or 33.1% is forested.
