History

Mákina was born in the early 90s in Valencia, Spain, derived from another style called bakalao, which was in reality the local name given to an association of electronic styles played together with indie pop/rock tunes in Valencian clubs in the second half of the 80's. . Over the years Mákina progressed in speed and sound. It is now a worldwide genre of music with many Producers and DJ's. Clubs such as Chocolate, Spook Factory, ACTV, Espiral, Barraca, Puzzle, Chasis, Pont Aeri, and many more, have played an important part helping Mákina become what it is today.

In 1999 Mákina became very popular in the North East, UK.
Past clubs, After Dark 2, The New Monkey and Energize promoted the style. Present clubs Hanger 13, Northern Bounce and Deja Vu still hold regular Mákina parties. Mákina has also managed to find its way to Scotland with a club night called Dimensional in Glasgow.

Producers such as Megabeat, Ruboy, Pastis and Buenri, Sistema 3 and Gerard Requena, have played an important roll to keeping the genre alive. Although they do not actively produce Mákina, their tracks are still played worldwide. Now the UK is playing a huge role in keeping Mákina going with over 20 producers actively producing and mixing Mákina for release and a lot of club nights dedicated to Mákina in the UK.
