On Aug 14, 2011 he lashed out at Anna Hazare
in a press conference by calling Anna's fast illegal, further adding that his fast was not for the Lokpal Bill or against corruption. Tiwari continuing his attack on Anna, and stated, "The Sawant Commission ripped apart the moral core of Hazare as it found him steeped in corruption from head to toe. He also added by saying "Anna Hazare has not only insulted the Indian prime minister by saying with what face he will hoist the flag at Red Fort but has insulted the Indian flag and people who gave life for the country's freedom". However he apologised for levelling allegations against Anna Hazare that he was corrupt and appealed to the Gandhian to call off his 10-day fast.But the apology by the Congress MP from Punjab did not cut much ice with Hazare since the anti-corruption crusader's lawyer Milind Pawar said a case of defamation would be filed against him in a Pune court next week.

Family
Manish Tewari comes from a political family in Punjab. His father Dr. V.N. Tewari, a professor of Punjab University, has written more than 40 books in Punjabi and quite number of these are about the Sikh Gurus and their sacrifices. His father was also part of the freedom movement and was killed by terrorists in 1984, few months before Operation Blue Star. Mr. Tewari’s Grand Father, Sardar Tirath Singh too was an advocate and Minister in the Congress Government in Punjab.
