The Sydney Mardi Gras Film Festival is held as part of the annual Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras
celebrations every year. It is hosted by the non profit organization, Queer Screen and is one of the worlds largest platforms for LGBT
cinema.
Originally held as the Gay and Lesbian film festival by the Australian Film Institute
from 1978, the film festival joined the Mardi Gras in 1986 to present an annual 'Sydney Gay Film Week' in conjunction with the parade. The organization Queer Screen took control of the festival in 1993.
