Once a member of the Italian Liberal Party
, she joined Forza Italia
in 1994 and was elected to the Italian Senate
in general election of that year. Not re-elected in 1996, she was returned again as senator in 2001, 2006 and 2008 (this time for the newly formed The People of Freedom
). Between 2004 and 2006 she was Under-Secretary of Health and since 2008 she has been Under-Secretary of Justice.
