Marianne Florence Scott, OC
was the first woman to be appointed as National Librarian of Canada, a position she held from 1984-1999. Born in Toronto December 4, 1928. She studied at McGill University
where she earned her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Library Science. She was law librarian at McGill from 1955 to 1973, lecturer in the Faculty of Law from 1964 to 1974, and director of McGill libraries from 1975 to 1984. She was the co-founder of the Index to Canadian Legal Periodical Literature which began in 1963. She was awarded the Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal in 1977. In 1995 she received the Order of Canada
