The definition of marla varies between India and Pakistan. In North India, a marla is now based on the yard rather than the acre, and is equal to 25 sq yards. In Pakistan, it is still equal to 30.25 sq yards. A Pakistani marla is often referred to as a "big marla" in India.

One Pakistani Marla is equal to 9 sq karm in Urdu and karoon in Punjabi language 9 Sarsahi is equal to one Marla. 20 marlas in Pakistan are equal to one kanal.
Bangladesh and india have same marla(225 square foot).
