Martin Sennett Conner

Martin Sennett Conner (August 31, 1891 – September 16, 1950) was an American lawyer, politician, and college sports administrator. Conner served as the Governor of Mississippi from 1932 to 1936, serving as a Democrat.

from 1916 to 1924. His term as a governor was focused on dealing with the consequences of Great Depression
. Nonetheless surplus in state treasury was achieved during his governorship. Following his term as governor, Conner served as the first commissioner of the Southeastern Conference
(SEC) from August 21, 1940 through the fall of 1946.
He is buried in the Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, Mississippi.
