The 'Maryland National Guard Meritorious Civilian Service Medal' recognizes exceptional and meritorious service, performance, and significant accomplishments by civilian (state/federal) employees of the Maryland National Guard.

Civilian (state/federal) employees of the Maryland National Guard who have performed assigned duties for at least one year in an outstanding manner worthy of recognition for significant accomplishments with command-wide impact. This medal is not appropriate for retirement.

Contributions are measured against the following:
  1. Accomplished supervisory or non-supervisory duties in an exemplary manner, setting a record of achievement, and inspiring others to improve the quantity and quality of their work;
  2. Demonstrated unusual initiative and skill in devising new and improved equipment, work methods, and procedures; inventions resulting in substantial savings in expenses such as manpower, time, space, and materials, or improved safety or health of the workforce;
  3. Achieved outstanding results in improving the morale and performance of employees;
  4. Exhibited unusual courage or competence in an emergency, while performing assigned duties, resulting in direct benefit to the government or its personnel;
  5. Rendered professional or public relations service of a unique or distinctive character.


If an employee is awarded a subsequent Maryland National Guard Meritorious Civilian Service Medal a second medal will NOT be presented. In lieu of the medal, a bronze bottony device will be awarded. A bronze bottony device will be presented for the second through fourth award. A single silver bottony device will be worn to indicate the fifth award.

Description

Medal, ribbon, and citation. The ribbon consists of vertical stripes of black, white, red, white, and black.
