north to MD 279

. MD 268, the old alignment of MD 279 within Elkton, was designated in 1967 after MD 279 bypassed Elkton.

Route description
MD 268 begins an an intersection with MD 7 (Main Street) in downtown Elkton. MD 7 is one-way eastbound; accessing westbound MD 7 requires using High Street or Railroad Avenue west to MD 213 (Bridge Street) to connect with MD 7 west of downtown. MD 268 heads north through a commercial area. At Railroad Avenue, the highway enters a residential area and veers slightly to the left to cross over the Amtrak Northeast Corridor.
