" remained the official anthem of the state, but a popular though unofficial song was "Maréchal, nous voilà !" Officially, the song was created in 1941, but Montagnard and Courtioux actually plagiarized another song composed by Polish composer Casimir Oberfeld, "La Margoton du bataillon".
Oberfeld was later deported and murdered at Auschwitz in 1945.
