Luongo is from Sydney Australia and went to Wavereley College in Sydney's Eastern suburbs.
Luongo signed for Tottenham in January 2010 after impressing on trial. He made his debut for the first team on 20 September 2011 in a 7-6 extra-time penalty shoot out loss to Stoke City

Luongo is eligible to represent either the Australian national football team by birth, the Italian National Team due to his father's birth or the Indonesian national football team due his mother's birth.
He has represented the Australia U-20 on 2 occasions but was not selected for the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup
