It was Bent Fabricius-Bjerre who 30 years earlier wrote the catchy signature tune for the TV series and went on to write the full score of the musical.

The story behind the musical is that of a small town in Zealand where the fate of a number of families develop before and during the Second World War and the German occupation of Denmark.
