The MPI for Psycholinguistics was founded in 1980. It has four scientific directors, each of whom is responsible for one of the scientific disciplines: Anne Cutler (language comprehension), Wolfgang Klein (language acquisition), Peter Hagoort (language production) and Stephen Levinson (language and cognition). Previously, William Marslen-Wilson was director of the language comprehension group and Willem Levelt was director of the language production group.
