Competitive Anomaly

At the CIF Southern Section Council meeting on October 23, 2008, a committee of public and private schools put forth a proposal to declare Mayfair High School athletic teams a "competitive anomaly," in an effort to deal with competitive equality issues between public and private school athletic programs. To be declared a "competitive anomaly," leagues within the CIF Southern Section would vote on whether or not to declare a school dominant within their respective league, thus forcing that school to leave their league and play on a freelance schedule.

The criteria to declare a school a "competitive anomaly" would be playing in the Southern Section playoffs five consecutive years, having a dominant won-loss record against league schools over five years and winning the vast majority of its league games by excessive margins over the previous five years. Schools that are already being considered as a "competitive anomaly" are Southern Section powerhouses Orange Lutheran, Dominguez, Long Beach Poly, and Mayfair.

Showtime and Mariners

Showtime and Mariners are musical/performing arts groups at Mayfair. Showtime is made of both men and women, while Mariners is an all female group. Showtime and Mariners have toured various locations including: San Antonio,Nashville, and Hawaii. In recent years, the groups have been under the direction of Mrs. Holcomb. They also hold shows at the Bellflower Civic Center, and perform at the Bellflower Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony every year.
These groups perform around the school for different events throughout the school year.
